10 softball players named All-Region
The most in CCC history on one team
For the first time in school history, 10 Colby Community College softball players have been named to the Division I All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference/Region VI teams for their play this season.
Katie Adler, Cassi Clouse, Katelin Eastman and Kaitlynn Withers were first team selections. Marissa Croft, Jaycie George, Mahealani Haegele, and Alexis Kagan made the second team. Lanessa Amador and Haley Fox received honorable mention.
"It was nice to see the players recognized by the other coaches in the conference for their on-field accomplishments," said Colby Head Coach Steve Kinnett. "Even though we fell short of our goals we battled in every game all season and never quit."
Adler, a sophomore from Riverton, Utah, played in all 53 games. She hit .395 and ranked fifth in the conference with 10 doubles. Her 19 walks led the Lady Trojans.
As a pitcher, sophomore Clouse went 19-8 and tossed 13 complete games. The West Jordan, Utah, native posted a 2.16 ERA over 146 innings and was the conference leader in games started (14) and shutouts (5).
Eastman finished the season with 41 hits, sixth best in the Jayhawk. The Riverton, Utah, sophomore hit .401 and played in all 53 games for the Lady Trojans.
Withers (Riverton, Utah) is a first teamer for the second time. She was also a first team member in 2016-17. As a sophomore, she hit .465 and ranked fifth nationally with 55 stolen bases. She was also the best in the Jayhawk with 51 hits.
From South Jordan, Utah, sophomore Croft led the Lady Trojans with eight home runs. She was second on the team in RBIs (42) and doubles (14), and fourth with a .384 batting average.
George was tied for second on the club with five home runs. She hit .377 and drove in 42 runs. The Hooper, Utah, sophomore also had the distinction of leading the team for most times hit by a pitch with 7.
Colorado Springs, Colo., freshman Haegele posted a 3.38 ERA in the circle, striking out 80 batters in 128.1 innings. She also started 14 conference games on the way to posting an overall record of 18-5.
Castle Rock, Colorado's, Kagan ranked third on the club with 39 RBIs. The freshman's 60 hits were second-best on the team while hitting .366.
As a freshman, Amador hit .320 and drove in 22 runs. Defensively, the Thornton, Colo. outfielder posted a .979 fielding average in 52 chances.
Fox collected 42 hits on the season, good enough for a .316 average. The Colorado Springs, Colo., freshman was second on the team with five home runs.
As a team, the Lady Trojans finished with a record of 38-15 and compiled the second most single season wins since Kinnett arrived at CCC. His 2015-16 club went 42-18.
"I am proud of the accomplishments the team made this year," Kinnett said. "The team chemistry was outstanding and accounted for a lot of our wins. This team set some school records and continued the tradition of excellence on and off the field."
