Four straight for Lady Trojans
Softball tops Garden City 4-0, 7-5
The Colby Community College softball team extended their Jayhawk Conference winning streak to four after 4-0 and 7-5 wins over Garden City Wednesday at Carl Adams Field.
Sophomore pitcher Cassi Clouse scattered three hits over seven innings in the first game. She struck out five with and walked three.
The only offensive needed by Colby, now 15-5 overall and 4-2 in the Jayhawk West, came on a first inning Jaycie George RBI groundout that scored Kaitlynn Withers. Colby added two more in the third on a groundout by George and a single by freshman Lanessa Amador. The other CCC run came in the fifth when Withers scored on a passed ball.
The game two win required a late-inning rally. Colby trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth before exploding for five runs. A two-out pinch hit RBI by Alyssa Long sparked the comeback to make it 4-3. When the dust settled, Withers, Alexis Kagan and Katelin Eastman strung together consecutive hits to put the Lady Trojans up by two.
Clouse returned to the circle to throw an inning and two-thirds to get her second win of the day.
Garden City (9-5, 1-3) out-hit Colby 9-8, and got homeruns from Ariel Denney and Taylore Hartman.
The Lady Trojans return to action Wednesday for a 2 p.m. home double-header with Barton Community College at Carl Adams Field.
