Softball takes two at Dodge City
Lady Trojans hammer 28 hits in 12-4, 11-0 sweep
The Colby Community College softball team picked two road wins Saturday in a Jayhawk Conference matchup with Dodge City, 12-4 and 11-0.
In the first game the Lady Trojans' offense jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. They would plate two in the fifth and five more in the seventh. Katilynn Withers led the 16-hit attack with four singles, while Katelin Eastman, Paige Farnsworth, Lanessa Amador, and Jaycie George also racked up multiple hits.
Pitcher Cassi Clouse got the win. She went six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out eight. Whisper Doliwa threw one-third of an inning in relief.
In game two, Mahealani Haegele surrendered just three hits over six shutout innings while striking out eight.
Offensively, the Lady Trojans banged out 12 hits. Jaycie George began the assault with a two-run homer in the first inning. Haley Fox homered in the sixth. Kaitlynn Withers, Alexis Kagan, and Fox had two hits apiece.
Colby improves to 13-5 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk West. The next action is Wednesday when they host Garden City for a double-header. The first pitch at Carl Adams Field is set for 2 p.m.
