National meet wraps up track season
Too wins three titles
The Colby Community College men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the year at the NJCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 16-18 in Hobbs, N.M.
On the men's side, Nehemia Too completed a "triple crown" performance of first place finishes. He capped off the first night of the meet with a national championship in the 10,000m while posting a stadium record time of 31:26.48.
In field events, Weston Lewis is an All-American after scoring a 7th place finish with a jump of 1.98 meters.
The men's 4x800m relay team of Caleb Carrasco, Amilcar "Tito" Gonzalez, Too, and Mauro Arancibia finished 9th with a time of 8:03.40.
Wesley Banguria secured All-American recognition with a 4th place finish in the steeplechase, running in 9:36.29. This places him in the top of six of the CCC record books.
In the 1500m, Too ran away with his second national title of the meet and a stadium record time of 3:54.47. Banguria also scored an All-American performance in 8th place with a 4:06.36. Caleb Carrasco rounded out the field, placing 12th.
Too won his third national title of the meet, this time in the 5000m, with a stadium record time of 15:12.79. Banguria finished his freshman year with a 12th place finish.
The women's 4x800m quartet of Emery Swan, Brooke Navarro, Allison Hiatt, and Aileen Gurrola finished in 9th place with a time of 10:09.79.
Gurrola returned to the track and earned All-American status with a 7th place finish in the 1500-meter final and a time of 4:54.49. She also was an All-America in the 800m, finishing 4th with a time of 2:16.58. She now owns the top two fastest 800m times ever run at CCC.
Erika Alvarado placed 14th in her 10,000m performance with a time of 44:46.41.
In the women's 5K, Brooke Navarro closed out her freshman year with a 13th place finish.
