Track battles conditions in Hillsboro
Banguria wins 1500
The Colby Community College men's and women's track and field teams battled 30 mile-per-hour wind gusts at the Tabor College Invitational April 20 in Hillsboro.
Wesley Banguria highlighted the meet for the Trojans, winning the 1500m run in 4:02.06 and qualifying for the national meet. Arthur Berthelin followed Banguria with a third-place finish in 4:17.95.
In the women's 800m, Ascar Koech ran a 2:46.59 to finish 17th. Aileen Gurrola ran her first 3k steeple of the season, missing the qualifying standard by only five seconds with a 12:35.31.
Caleb Carrasco led the Trojan men in the 5K with a sixth-place finish in 16:41.28, a personal best. Ruben Martinez followed in ninth place and a time of 16:55.12. In the field events, Weston Lewis jumped 5-11 1/2 to finish ninth in the men's high jump.
Both teams return to action in Concordia April 24 at the Cloud County Invitational.
