Trojan basketball enters final games
Men, women host Pratt before starting postseason
Saturday marks the final regular season games for the Colby Community College women's and men's basketball teams when they host Pratt at the Community Building on sophomore recognition day. The women tip at 3 p.m. and the men follow at 5 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to stay after the games and watch the Trojan men cut down the nets as they celebrate the first Jayhawk Conference title in CCC history.
Regardless of who wins the men's contest Saturday, it is the final home appearance for the Trojans. Winners of 10 straight, Rusty Elmore's squad nailed down the top seed in postseason play and earned a first-round bye. With a record of 24-5 on the season and 17-3 in the Jayhawk, Colby opens the Region VI quarterfinals March 1 in a 7 p.m. start at Dodge City's United Wireless Arena.
The playoff picture on the women's side is not as clear. CCC, 18-11 overall and 9-11 in conference play under Coach Antwain Scales, could finish anywhere from third to sixth place and still have an opportunity to open the playoffs with a home game. The postseason opponent will be determined after Saturday's results across the conference.
