Second-half rally boosts Trojans over McCook
Davis ties career-high with 27 points
After trailing by eight points in the second half, the Colby Community College men's basketball team rallied to beat McCook Community College 81-71 Tuesday night at the Community Building.
The two teams were evenly matched, as the margin never increased by more than six points in the first half. The Trojans went into the break up 40-35.
The second half was a game of runs from both teams. The Indians opened on a 7-0 spurt in the first two minutes to take a 42-40 lead. After a Colby time out, Demarcus Sharp ended the Trojans drought by hitting one of two foul shots. McCook continued to score, and after the Indians' Rahiem Sullivan hit a pair of free throws, Colby was down 49-41 at the 15:06 mark.
The Trojans regrouped after a Matt Mcfarlane bucket on the baseline gave his team their first field goal of the half with 14:44 remaining. The defense clamped down, and by the time Sharp hit a 3-pointer, Colby was on a 10-0 run and held a 51-49 advantage. The lead stayed within six points until the final minute when the Trojans hit free throws to secure the win.
Last season's Jayhawk Conference freshman of the year Eddie Davis tied a career-high with 27 points to go with eight rebounds. Sharp finished with 16 points and Javion May had 14.
McCook, who drops to 3-3 on the season, was led in scoring with 13 points each from Sullivan and Le'Trey Darthard.
Colby, now 4-1, is on the road this weekend for a tournament at the Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland, where they play the Lamar Community College JV at 6:30 p.m. Friday and take on New Mexico Junior College Saturday at 2 p.m. The Trojans return to the Community Building Nov. 27 for a 7:30 p.m. tip with Northeastern Junior College.
