Two Trojans to play D-1
Bol heading to Central Florida, Hampton to Hampton University
Two Colby Community College sophomore basketball players recently signed with Division I basketball programs for 2019. Moses Bol is going to the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla., and Ed Oliver-Hampton is headed to Hampton, Va., to attend Hampton University.
At 7-foot-1, Bol was third in the Jayhawk Conference with 56 blocked shots in 25 games on his way to receiving conference honorable mention. The Wau, Sudan, native averaged 5.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 51 percent from the floor.
"It has been so much fun watching Moses grow as a person and a player these last two years," said Trojans Head Coach Rusty Grafel. "His presence on the floor will be hard to replace but replacing how good he has been as a student-athlete will be even tougher. He will continue to get better, and we are extremely excited to watch him grow at UCF."
UCF competes in the American Athletic Conference. The Knights just missed advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in the 2019 NCAA tournament under third-year coach Johnny Dawkins.
"We love the potential we see in Moses," Dawkins said in a release. "He's got good speed and runs the floor really well for a guy his size. That will really help us at the tempo we want to play at. He's obviously already a really good shot blocker, and we are excited to get started working with him."
The 6-8 Oliver-Hampton, who hails from Forestville, Md., played in 12 games for the Trojans. He shot 52.3 percent from the floor, averaging 15.4 points and eight rebounds a game.
"Even though Ed was only able to play half the season for us he impacted our team greatly," Grafel said. "His versatility is what we wanted on this team, and that is exactly what he gave us. He will fit right in at Hampton University and make us proud here at Colby!"
As members of the Big South Conference, the Pirates went 18-17 under coach Edward Joyner Jr.
"We are very excited to add Ed to the Hampton family," said Joyner. "His capability to guard the 1-5 in our conference is huge for us, and he is able to score on all three levels on the offensive end. He can create on his own which will be something we need on the offensive end."
