Men's basketball lands three on all-conference teams
Beaudion, Bol, and Davis collect KJCCC honors
Three Trojan basketball players were recognized by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference for their play this season. Sophomore Craig Beaudion was named to the Division I first team, and freshman Eddie Davis was named co-freshman of the year. Additionally, Davis and sophomore Moses Bol received honorable mention.
"Like every year in this conference there are so many good athletes on each team," said CCC head coach Rusty Grafel. "I'm happy our three young men were recognized by other teams for how well they played through the course of this year."
Beaudion was a captain and played in 31 games. The 6-foot-3 point guard from Chicago, Ill., averaged 14.4 points a game and shot 40 percent from the field. He was among the top three in steals (56) and was fifth in the conference with 122 assists. He posted a career-high 36 points at Dodge City on Jan. 14.
At 7-1, Bol anchored the Trojans defense. He was third in the Jayhawk with 56 blocked shots in just 25 games. The Wau, Sudan, native averaged 5.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 51 percent from the floor. Jan. 16 he had a breakout game in a win over Northwest Tech with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.
"Craig and Moses finished up two years of hard work and dedication to this program," Grafel said. "I'm always happy for guys like this because they bought into everything we needed them to do for us to be successful. Both these young men will graduate in the spring and move on to the next level where they will make their next coaching staff, team, college, and community very proud."
The 6-6 Davis averaged 13.5 points and pulled down 6.6 rebounds a game. From Port St. Lucie, Fla., Davis played in all 32 games and shot 49 percent from the floor. Twice he scored 27 in a game, including the Trojans opening round playoff win on Feb. 27.
For the first time in my coaching career, we have a co-freshman of the year," Grafel said. "Eddie played really well for us in the second semester and down the stretch. He showed his versatility in all areas of the game, and this is a huge lift for him moving forward to his sophomore year."
The trio was part of a Trojans team that advanced to the Region VI quarterfinal game for the second straight year and compiled an overall record of 18-14.
Grafel said his players know that individual success is the result of a complete team effort.
"These guys wouldn't have been able to achieve these awards without a great team around them."
Players selected to the Division I All-KJCCC teams were nominated by their coaches and voted on by opposing coaches, who did not vote for their own players. The complete list can be found on the KJCCC website.
