Trojan trio to continue at the next level
Dalton, Hall, and Carmichael sign LOIs
Three Colby Community College men's basketball players, Ty Dalton, David Hall, and Christian Carmichael, will continue their educations and basketball careers at the university level next fall.
"I'm extremely excited for all three of these guys, and all three of them will be hard to replace," said Trojans Head Coach Rusty Grafel.
Dalton is returning to his hometown of Houston, Texas, to play for Houston Baptist University. As a 6-foot-4-inch freshman, he averaged 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. In the Jayhawk Conference he ranked fifth in assists (98) and steals (33). He logged a triple-double Feb. 28 during the opening round of the Region VI playoffs, when he had 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in a win over Pratt. In March, he was named to the Region VI Division I All-Tournament Team.
HBU is a Division I school and a member of the Southland Conference.
After earning an associate degree from CCC last week, 6-foot-6 Hall is heading to the University of New Hampshire. In his sophomore campaign, he was named to the KJCCC Second Team and received Region VI honorable mention. The Bucyrus, Ohio, native tallied 13.9 points per contest and ranked fourth in the conference by making 74 percent of his free throws.
At the Division I level, NHU competes in the America East Conference.
Carmichael, from Manhattan, Kan., and also a recent CCC graduate, will transfer to Division II Minnesota State University Moorhead. As a sophomore, he scored 6.5 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds a game. At 6-foot-6, he shot 50 percent from the field and hit 72 percent of his free throws in 16 minutes per contest.
MSUM participates in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
"We were lucky enough to have Ty here for a year, and he fit in right away with the rest of team," Grafel said. "David and Christian both spent two years here, and I can't thank them enough for what they have done for this program and this school. My job is that much more rewarding when I'm able to coach young men like them. They all will make an immediate impact at their next schools, and I can't wait to watch them!"
