Hot Shooting lifts Trojans over Cloud
"Unselfish" play results in 88-68 win
A blazing start for the Trojan men's basketball team opened the door for an 88-68 Jayhawk Conference win over Cloud County Community College Saturday night at the Colby Community Building.
"This was a key game for us with only two games left this semester," said Colby head coach Rusty Grafel. "It's always good to play well in front of your home crowd!"
Colby jumped out to an 18-8 lead in the first six minutes and stretched it to 48-29 by the break.
"Our first half was one of our best thus far," Grafel said. "We were able to dictate a lot of the game based on our offense."
The Trojans were efficient with the basketball, dishing out 28 assists on 49 percent shooting. They had only nine turnovers.
"We have a lot of guys on this team that are unselfish," Grafel added. "It showed in this game with how we moved the ball around."
Colby, now 7-3 overall now 4-3 in the KJCCC, got 20 points and nine rebounds from David Hall. Ty Dalton and Gabriel Gyamfi also added 12 points each, while Milton Wordlow III and Craig Beaudion both had seven assists.
Cloud County (3-7, 1-6) was led by Ramion Burt Jr.'s fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The Trojans head to Pratt Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip against the Beavers (4-7, 1-6). The final home game before the holiday break begins at 3 p.m. Sunday against Coffeyville.
