Equestrian opens with several class winners
The Colby Community College equestrian team hosted the first western competition of the season at the CCC Agriculture Center on October 12-13. CCC finished Saturday in a tie for high point team with the University of Nebraska Lincoln and was reserve high point team on Sunday behind UNL.
Other participating schools were Laramie County Community College, Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado-Boulder and the University of Wyoming.
Class winners for the Trojans were Adrianne Schaunaman, Amber Graber, Merriah Bockmann, Blayne Kauffman, Ellie Wiles, Dakota Hartman, Nichole Patry, Kayla Engwicht, and Mikayla Graham.
Points earned over the weekend qualified sophomores Bockmann, Emma Jolley, Graber and Schaunaman for the regional championships in February.
"It's always a big task to host a home show, and especially the first show of the season," said Colby head coach Shanda Mattix. "We rely on a lot of support from our team, family, and supporters to make it all happen. We so appreciate the support to put on a successful horse show!"
The team will be in Parker, Colo., this weekend for a hunt seat show.
