Equestrian team strong in opener
CCC high point team and reserve high point team in two-day show
The Colby Community College equestrian team hosted the first western competition of the season at the CCC Agriculture Center on October 6-7. CCC finished Saturday as high point team and reserve high point team on Sunday behind the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
Lauren Hubele went undefeated Saturday in reining and open horsemanship on the way to being named high point rider. Freshman beginner rider Savannah Shiner went undefeated over the weekend and won both of her classes. Points earned advanced Brittany Stroup to the Intermediate 2 division. Other wins went to Cassandra Wolff, Rachel Keltz, Emma Jolley and Adrianne Schaunaman.
"We're so proud of this team, their hard work and dedication to success," said head coach Shanda Mattix. "I'm excited to see what this team continues to bring to the arena. I expect a lot out of them this year and continuing to be in the top placings. We also identified some areas we need to focus on in the upcoming weeks to continue to win."
Sunday's rain forced the show indoors to Oakley's Dick Farmer Arena and Mattix was appreciative for the help moving.
"It's always a challenge to make a move like that happen due to the quantity of horses and supplies. We're fortunate to have a number of team members' families and friends and supporters of the team who helped haul horses and run a successful show at a different location. We're so thankful for their support!"
