Covel third at hunt seat zones

Colby Community College sophomore equestrian rider Kortnie Covel (Ogallala, Neb.) placed third in beginner equitation at the Zone 8 Championships hosted by Stanford University April 7 in Palo Alto, Calif. 

Because the top two riders in each class move on to the IHSA National Horse Show, Covel narrowly missed an opportunity to advance.

"She had an excellent performance at the competition," said head coach Shanda Mattix. "We are so proud of Kortnie and her outstanding ride!"

Covel qualified for the zone event as a result of earning region champion March 10 in Golden, Colo.
