Covel qualifies for hunt seat zone championships
CCC sophomore advances to April 7 IHSA Zone 8 Championships in Palo Alto, Calif.
It was a busy day for the Colby Community College equestrian team March 10 as they competed in a reduced hunt seat show before Kortnie Covel earned class champion in the hunt seat regionals.
Head coach Shanda Mattix said CCC showed freshman riders in the first event to help them get a jump on points for next school year.
"We had several really strong rides," she said.
The day concluded with the Hunt Seat Regional Championships. Sophomores Amelia Pitcher and Covel qualified in Beginner Equitation. Pitcher ended in fourth place. Covel was awarded class champion and advances to the April 7 IHSA Zone 8 Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., hosted by Stanford University.
"We are so excited for Kortnie's success and look forward to cheering her on at zones," Mattix said.
The team is back on the road for the Western Semi-Finals Championships Saturday and Sunday in Kewanee, Ill.
