Equestrian team earns reserve high point team in Colorado
Trojans win eight classes in two-day show
For the second straight weekend, the Colby Community College equestrian team finished as reserve high point team in a western competition. The Trojans rode Nov. 18 and 19 in Eaton, Colo. at shows hosted by Laramie County Community College and the University of Colorado-Boulder. Each day CCC finished just behind the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
"I'm really pleased with our level of riding and our drive to be successful in the arena and secure several wins," said head coach Shanda Mattix. "On Saturday's show, we won six out of 11 classes! That speaks to the level of our riders.
Points earned at the horse show qualified Kortnie Covel and Brittany Stroup for the Regional Championships in February.
"We expect a couple more riders to qualify in spring competitions," Mattix said. "We have a bit of down time until competitions begin again in February to work on details to help us continue to pursue big wins."
The next competition will be a Feb. 10-11 hunt seat show in Colorado Springs, Colo.
