Reserve high point honors for equestrian team in Lincoln
The Colby Community College equestrian team ended as reserve high point team Nov. 11 and 12 at western shows hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. The Trojans finished behind the home team each day.
Colby entered the shows leading the region in points, but until then had only competed at home.
"It was a test of our ability as a team since we were riding horses that were unfamiliar to us and riding horses that UNL practices on every day," said head coach Shanda Mattix. "We had a lot of strong rides and also identified some areas that need work. The classes were large, and we saw tough competition from other schools as well."
Points earned over the weekend advanced sophomore rider Amelia Pitcher into the next division. Freshman Amber Graber went undefeated in the novice horsemanship class.
This weekend Colby travels to Cheyenne, Wyo., for the final western show of the semester hosted by Laramie County Community College and the University of Colorado Boulder.
"This will be a true test of our skills," Mattix said. "We've been practicing hard for the upcoming weekend."
