Ryan Carter is in his 24th season at the helm of Trojan baseball with a career mark of 669 wins and 590 losses.

He holds records for most wins in the program’s history, and he is CCC's longest-tenured coach.

In 2021, the Trojans finished with a 30-25 record and advanced to the NJCAA Plains District semifinals. With a solid pitching staff, experience, and depth, this year’s squad looks to go deep into the playoffs again. CCC returns four all-conference position players to support last season's conference freshman of the year Alex Cook. The Trojans are on the radar of KJCCC schools, as member coaches predicted the Trojans to win the western division. 

Coach Carter, the 2016 Jayhawk West Coach of the Year, leads a program with 21 consecutive postseason appearances. He works diligently to make CCC a place where young men learn the game of baseball while becoming better people, and he believes success only comes through involvement of the entire program.

“It takes a lot of hard work and very dedicated players and coaches to maintain a certain level of accomplishment,” he said. “We have players and coaches that believe in our program and continue to work to keep us at a level we have grown accustomed to.”

During Carter’s tenure, 186 players have transferred to four-year institutions, including 39 to Division I universities. Twelve former players have been drafted or signed to independent contracts – Logan Hofmann, Jeremy Gwinn, Daniel Devonshire, Travis Mortimore, T.R. Keating, Kris Jiggitts, Eric Sim, Pat Farrell, Dan April, Sean Lydon, Aaron Dunsmore and Chris Hall.

Carter came to Colby directly from the University of Redlands, where he played two seasons. At Redlands, he earned all-conference honors and won the team’s Gold Glove Award for his work behind the plate his senior season. Prior to attending Redlands, Carter redshirted and played two seasons at Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz.

Carter grew up in Page, Ariz., on the banks of Lake Powell, one of the premier vacation spots in the nation. While at Page High School, he starred in baseball and wrestling, earning All-State honors in both sports his senior year.

Carter lives in Colby with his wife Krista, his wife of 18 years, who is also a psychology instructor at CCC. They have two daughters, 15-year-old Kenzie and 13-year-old Ryler.
