Trojans picked to win KJCCC West
Five all-conference returners lead the way
According to voting by member coaches in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, the Colby Community College baseball team is predicted to win the western division this season.
CCC returns four all-conference position players to support last season's KJCCC freshman pitcher of the year Alex Cook. With a solid pitching staff, experience, and depth, the Trojans look to go deep into the playoffs again.
In 2021, Colby finished with a 30-25 record and advanced to the NJCAA Plains District semifinals.
Head Coach Ryan Carter is in his 24th season.
"It always feels good to be thought of so highly by your peers," Carter said. "However, every coach knows that the game is played on the field and not in the polls. This is a highly competitive conference, and it will be decided by the team that plays the best for 32 games. With that said, we are honored to be picked number one and hopefully can live up to the hype."
The Trojans open their season Tuesday against Lamar Community College at Young Memorial Field. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
