Trojans split home-and-home with McCook
The Colby Community College baseball team lost a heartbreaking 7-6 road game to the McCook Community College Indians Wednesday and bounced back to defeat the Indians 11-6 Thursday in Colby.
In McCook, the Trojans fell behind 3-0 early but battled back to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Indians knotted the game at five when Dominic Paratore homered with a man on. The Trojans added a run in the eighth and carried a slim 6-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth when McCook's Jacob Sanford hit a walk-off two-run home run.
Colby's Adam Cook, Drake Kirkwood, and Garrett Kirkwood each had two hits in the loss.
Thursday the two teams met in Colby. The Trojans fell behind 6-1 before drawing even in the seventh inning and adding five more in the eighth.
Sophomore pitcher Dan Carseldine (2-0) got the win for the Trojans and Garrett Kirkwood increased his batting average to .380 with a three-hit game.
The Trojans resume Jayhawk Conference play with a four game series March 25-26 in Liberal against the Seward County Saints. Double-headers each day are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
