Trojans flash leather in sweep of Pratt
CCC tallies just two errors and scores 54 runs in series
The Colby Community College baseball team scored 54 runs and committed just two errors in a four-game sweep of Pratt Community College over the weekend at Young Memorial Field.
Saturday the Trojans jumped out to an early game one lead in their 11-5 win. In the second inning, Colby scored on an error, a walk by Harrison Stevens and a walk by Drake Kirkwood. Brian Granton and Ryley Humrighouse each drove in three runs. Winning pitcher Chase Dreger (3-1) allowed five runs over seven innings, striking out ten without a walk.
The Trojans continued to dominate in game two, pounding out 18 hits in a 15-5 victory that went eight innings. Garrett Kirkwood drove in four, and cleanup hitter Andy Leader belted his third home run of the season. Nick Vickers (2-3) earned the win as he threw four and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs, two hits, and striking out three.
Scoring came early Sunday as the Trojans plated 12 in the first two innings and the game was eventually called after five innings in a 15-2 route. Leader led the offensive assault with six RBIs. Humrighouse, Leader, and Christian Roduner each collected multiple hits. Bryce Fraser pitched five innings for the win, giving up two runs and striking out six. His record is now 3-2.
In game two, Colby took advantage of three Pratt errors to complete the four-game sweep by a score of 13-3. An Adam Cook 2-run single in the first and a Joe Lubick solo home run in the second began another offensive attack. Leader added RBIs while pitcher Greg Leban gave up three runs in six innings and improved his record to 5-1.
Colby, now 15-12 overall and 8-4 in the Jayhawk Conference western division, move into a tie with Garden City for second place. Wednesday the Trojans are at McCook Community College and see the Indians again Thursday at home for a 5 p.m. start.
