All Trojan spring athletics finished
Seasons over amid COVID-19 concerns
In the wake of the COVID-19 schedules changes, the 2020 athletic season at Colby Community College is officially over.
Monday, the National Junior College Athletic Association officially ended the 2020 NJCAA Men's and Women's Division I and II national basketball tournaments as well as the entire spring championship season. In addition to the Trojans' first appearance in the national men's basketball tournament, the decision brings a sudden conclusion to CCC's baseball, softball, and men's and women's track seasons.
Addressing eligibility in the shortened seasons, the NJCAA determined that no spring sport student-athlete who was enrolled at a member college in 2020 will be charged a year of participation.
Additionally, the NJCAA halted all recruiting until April 15, when the organization will reassess the situation.
The curtain closed on two other CCC spring sports. On March 12, the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) canceled all remaining regular-season and postseason shows. Monday, the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) left the decision to its member schools to cancel or reschedule spring rodeos. Schools in CCC's Great Plains Region opted to terminate all remaining events.
Academically, Colby Community College will deliver courses online for the rest of the semester.
