Kiwanis aids Big Blue Barn
$5,000 donation helps CCC reach fundraising goal
During the spring semester, Kiwanis helped Colby Community College move closer to building the Big Blue Barn athletics practice facility with a $5,000 donation.
"Your support will have a direct positive influence on the future of the college," Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. George McNulty told the Colby Kiwanis in their weekly meeting. "The Big Blue Barn will be used by students and the community for many years to come. We thank Kiwanis for their generosity in supporting this project."
Kiwanis is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children. The Colby chapter sponsors activities such as the annual Easter egg hunt, the Gun and Coin Show, and community pancake feed.
The 18,000 square-foot Big Blue Barn will feature a wrestling room, weight room, locker room, track, and a multi-purpose turfed area with drop-down batting cages. Additionally, the facility offers opportunities for the general student population and the community to stay active.
The estimated cost of the project is $1.54 million. The financing goal was reached, and approximately 98 percent of the funds have been collected through grants and donations. College officials expect to break ground on the facility this summer and anticipate completion to be in November.
